Segundo Ana Lúcia Merege, é uma publicação voltada para a divulgação e para o grande público. Não são textos acadêmicos nem no estilo, nem na profundidade. Esperem um passeio despretensioso pela História do Livro no Ocidente (embora mencionemos o Oriente algumas vezes), que parte dos primeiros registros e sistemas de escrita, chega até o Brasil e acompanha nossa história editorial desde a colônia até algumas grandes editoras dos anos 1960-1970. Toca, ainda, em temas transversos, como a História da Ciência e as práticas de leitura. Por fim, esperem - e eu espero que encontrem - uma leitura fácil, fluente e interessante, que dê vontade de pesquisar e saber mais.

According to Ana Lúcia Merege, the publication is aimed at dissemination and the general public. These are not academic texts, neither in style nor in depth. Expect an unpretentious journey through the History of Books in the West (although we mention the East a few times), which starts with the first records and writing systems, reaches Brazil and follows our editorial history from the colonial period to some major publishers of the 1960s and 1970s. It also touches on cross-cutting themes, such as the History of Science and reading practices. Finally, expect - and I hope you find - an easy, fluent and interesting read, which will make you want to research and learn more.
