This paper has the purpose of unprecedentedly evaluating how the perspective of the community of practice in Human Rights, which debate is almost unprecedented in Brazil, can contribute to Education in Human Rights (EHR), looking into how it converges and diverges from the Paulo Freire Method. To do this, these methodologies’ application is described in a case analysis of a university extension from Federal University of Pernambuco that applies both methods, allowing one to observe their differences, convergences and impacts. Bringing together the state of art about theoretical and methodological basis about EHR, the paper focuses on comparing the method proposed by the educator from Pernambuco Paulo Freire, so as to value each subject’s reality, with the idea of an interconnected knowledge of the community of practice. Hence, the methodologies are compared and their practical application described in the experience of an extension, showing the importance of inserting different livings, valuing them, in a bigger, interconnected context to solidify the process of EHR and of human rights assurance.
