Abstract

The present study had the objective to evaluate the effect of heat stress in the morphometry and number of granulosa cells of bovine preantral follicles. The ovaries were obtained from slaughterhouse and divided into two parts, one for the control group (without heat stress) and one for the group subjected to heat stress (heated at 42 °C for 20 min in a solution of NaCl 0.9%). After treatment, the samples were fixed in Carnoy and forwarded to classic histology techniques. The results indicate that primordial and primary follicles exposed to heat stress have reduced in diameter (P <0.05), but not in the number of the granulosa cells (P>0.05) when compared to the control group. In conclusion, the histological analysis show that in vitro heat stress affect the morphometry of bovine preantral follicles.
