Abstract

The ingestion of foreign bodies by captive reptiles is related to the maintenance of these animals in unsuitable places. This report refers to the description of ingestion cases of weird foreign bodies by three jabuti piranga (Chelonoidis carbonaria) from keepers in Sergipe, Brazil. The animals were sent for medical care with a history of apathy, prostration, loss of appetite and constipation. After anamnesis and clinical evaluation the specimens were submitted to simple ventrodorsal radiographs that confirmed the presence of radiopaque material in the digestive tract. Therapeutic procedures were different and one of the animals died due to the seriousness of his condition. From that report we concluded that the occurrence of ingestion of foreign bodies may occur when treatment is inadequate. Keywords: Reptiles, digestive tube, foreign body.
