Abstract

Induction and synchronization of estrus in goats allow planning at delivery facilitating the use of artificial insemination can be scheduled and held in a large number of females in a predetermined period reducing the cost of the technique. The purpose of this review was to study the methods of control of the estrous cycle in goats. For the induction or synchronization of estrus are known the natural method which employs the effect of male and artificial using prostaglandins, progestogens and gonadotrophins. The luteolytic agents are used in cyclic females in order to cause destruction of the corpus luteum. Treatment with progestins or progesterone to control the time of onset of estrus and ovulation through a mechanism to "lock" and "unlock" on the gonadotropins. From a better understanding of ovarian physiology, particularly the follicular dynamics have been studied new schemes for the hormonal control of estrus in small ruminants.
