Abstract

The occurrence of the Dirofilaria immitis in Brazil has been registered in several States, with indexes of varied prevalence. The recent information on the vectors incriminated Aedes scapularis and A. taeniorhynchus as primary and confirmed the participation of Culex quinquefasciatus as secondary in the transmission of the D. immitis. The capture of A. aegypti in peridomiciliar environment during observations entomology took to question on us the vectorial competence of that insect in transmitting the agent of Dirofilariose. The evaluation revealed that groups different from that species possess high vectorial competence for D. immitis. Keywords: Vector competence, vector, microfilariae.
